M·A·C is backstage in Brazil, with a close-up of the explosive acrobatics and artistry at Corteo by Cirque du Soleil. Photos by Gustavo Scatena.
I am such a huge fan of Cirque you don’t even know. I bought their soundtracks in high school before I even KNEW what Cirque du Soleil was (Alegria, the first in my collection, had been on a cassette tape and worn out from playing before I replaced it with a CD - I’m still trying to figure out how to chase the show down eventually so that I can finally watch the show whose music I’ve memorized for 20 years). I’ve gone to over half a dozen different Cirques by now, and went to Ka alone so many times that when I was organizing an event for my company at Aria and they found out, they gave me a free ticket in an up-close-and-personal section - and it literally transformed how I experience Cirque. Now, I save up for those front seats instead of making do with the back ones - yes, it really makes a difference.
I found out today that they have their own tumblr, and I just adore these photo montages - I just started learning how to do my own make-up this year, and now I am absolutely fascinated by the process. It’s like painting on a canvas of my own face - it’s become art to me, not just about prettifying myself. I literally slip into the same zen state when I start the make-up routine as when I was drawing or inking in my high school art classes, and I wander into Sephora almost every week now, addicted to all the colors and palettes. So these collections are particularly dear to me, as I see both aspects of the artistry that goes into Cirque - their artistic displays as well as physical feats.
A redux of another coloring job I did months ago for Viking’s hug sketch. After seeing the first try on the HD screen, I wanted to cry, so I brushed up on my skills, looked at as many fanarts, and production photos as I could, and tried again.
A moment inspired by RP, but Rinzler, Ram, and Yori group hug.
Feeling good about this “update” pic :’D
I don’t have anything new for the virtual Troncon so I figured I’d get off my butt and make at least one of the most reblogged images poster-sized. So here it is for anyone who’d like one, available from Society6. The next one I do will be the Sark ‘Obey’ one, so watch this space…
And here’s an example of what to do with the stencil pack I posted last time; I saved a few steps along the way to show you how ArtRage works. Hope you like!
Uhm, HAI EVERYONE I’M STILL KINDA SORTA ALIVE :D
Yeah, uh, work is still kicking my butt all over the place, but the end is within sight! Hopefully April will be my last really manic insane work month, but in the meantime, I’ve had these amazing omg images saved on my desktop for all of February waiting until I had 20 mins to drabble and here I am, finally.
In the theme of the gridscape drabblets, I present Part 4 of 5 (yup I’ve determined that there will be just one more final installment!)
Gridscape Drablet 4
For a single, precious nano, he was free.
As the stolen lightjet entered the apogee of its climb, he did not feel the weight of his damaged limbs. As his sensors temporarily reported undefineds, confounded by the lack of vectors at the arc’s crest, the ever-present murmur of tactical feeds fell into standby and there was silence. The jet strained against its hardcoded limits, engine guttering, and the moment was suspended when it died altogether and he could only wait … wait … wait to see if it would re-ignite, if they would survive, if they would fly again …
Everything started again with a shriek of delirious laughter.
The iso pushed them into a punishing dive as the engine roared. Tron gritted his teeth as the forces clawed at old fractures, fought to sort through the sudden flood of new data, managed to grind out, “Down!” when he sensed the jet’s vector leveling and the iso obediently drove them deeper into the clouds.
The lights appeared first; scattered bursts of brilliance as they punched through the atmospheric haze. By the time the lines became a recognizable map, though, there was another excited whoop from the iso as she strained against the controls … the lightjet groaned as it fought to pull its nose up, barely clearing the lowest structures, light ribbon shimmering bright with shed heat behind it.
There was a hollow crump behind them and a glimmer of reflected light off building surfaces when someone behind them was not so lucky. “Think we’re gonna make it,” the iso gasped, humming with excess energy, the jet dancing beneath her touch.
"The question is why this is necessary in the first place," he retorted, fingers curling into the armrests, feeling joints creak and warning messages flash like lightning crawling across the bellies of the clouds.
"Dunno. They’re getting better at finding us - "
The second time already, that a potential meeting was interrupted. A second missed chance at pooling resources, at joining forces, at potential healing -
" - but Flynn got a message to me. He wants to try again. He said he’ll be at - "
- and suddenly, he wondered if more than just his shell had been damaged, wondered how he could have been so blind. Wondered why it was, that users seemed to always hold the balance of salvation and destruction in their hands. “Flynn,” he groaned, closing his eyes.
This bike is turning into some unholy steampunk/cyberpunk thing but it’s too much fun not to play with; I’ll add the remaining parts and the landscape later on - and here’s the Alpaca sketch I started out with, since everyone is going on about this free sketching program:
Duuuuuuuuuude … it’s weird and awesome how he almost seems like a part of the vehicle now (Grid 3.0!) but I love love LOVE those floating status screens
I just watched Identity. Arghghghghgh. This is the first of three sequential pieces.
Beck, I love you.
Tron, I love you.
Everyone just—feel the love.
I’m behind on Uprising, I’m behind on recs, I’m behind on everything. But boy this is cool.
I would write something if I wasn’t behind on that too. :(
Listen to the Higgs Boson
When I visited CERN last year, I was blown away not only by the science, but by the incredible amount of artistic creativity in the people that live and work at the biggest science experiment in the world. We met people in bands, people who painted murals, videographers, and so much more. So this little project by the folks at ATLAS to ‘sonify’ the Higgs finding just has me grinning. They assigned notes to data points and what came out was this lovely little habanera rhythm that corresponds with the Higgs.
It’s such a fun piece of music.
Nice find, Chels!
Still mostly lurking, but I simply could not leave this be! Who knew Higgs was so much fun? (And I totally agree that some of the most imaginative and aesthetically talented people I’ve met are “scientists”. :D)
Sometimes I imagine how cute it would be for Alan and Tron to hang out and work on grid stuff because I am a nerd and they make my heart achey
I went away for a week and forgot how to draw but I needed my fanart fix ahh
Eeeeeeeeeee! Cannot handle how cute this picture is ;o;
A+++++ WOULD REBLOG AGAIN
… AND AGAIN
Gah, I love how they’re all smushed shoulder-to-shoulder and their twin HMMMMMs …
